Chilku Dwadasi – A Day of Tulsi Damodara Vivah

Chiluku Dwadashi is the day to worship Tulsi and Damodar (Lord Vishnu). On this day, devotees celebrate the marriage of Tulsi and Damodar.

Devotees sanctify the place where Tulsi Vrindavan plant is established and decorate it with the leaves and branches of Amla. A branch with fruits of Amla is planted in Tulsi Vrindavan and worshipped. Tulsi Damodar Vivah is performed in teh evening.

Tulsi Damodar Vivah is celebrated on the day of Kartik Shukla Dwadashi.

In 2008, Tulsi Vivah is performed on 10th November, Monday. The day of Tulsi Damodar Vivah is also called as Chilku Dwadasi or Ksheerabdi Dwadasi.

The Jumbo Leaves

‘The Match Winner’, ‘Mr. Jumbo’ and ‘Indian Leggie’, Anil Kumble announced his retirement on 2nd November, Sunday, the last day of the third test between India and Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In his favorite ground where he took the record haul of 10 wickets in an innings, he left International cricket. He got a grand farewell from his fellow cricketers and the cricket lovers in Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi.

“It would have been ideal if we had won this Test, but the body was certainly telling me, asking me questions every day”  – Anil Kumble.

Nagula Chavithi – Dedicated To Naga Devatha

Nagula Chavithi is one of the regional festivals of Andhra Pradesh. It is celebrated on the fourth day after Deepavali. Nagula Chavithi falls in the month – Kartik. On this day, devotees worship Naga Devata (Serpent God).

Nagula Chavithi is a women festvial. On this day, women offer milk for snakes near the snake pits (valmeekam or putta or puttu).

Dates of the 3-day Naga festival in 2009:

  • Nagula Chavithi 2009 – 22nd October
  • Nagula Panchami 2009 – 23rd October
  • Naga Sashti 2009 – 24th October
